I watched this movie when it came out a couple of years ago. I was moved by its portrayal of a young girl from a multi-cultural family who allows trouble to find her when she has no one to protect her. The story is fresh; rarely are Asian-Americans shown in a cross-cultural, realistic way. Authentic script, well-acted. Definitely worth your time.

This movie is extremely well made & personal. Not a clichéd depiction of a good girl getting caught up in making bad decisions but an honest portrayal of what can happen to a child without the proper adult supervision & family support. Painful  to watch cause you're rooting for her but you know the odds are against her. In today's world young girls, especially, are seduced by all the wrong things in our society. Lily has made a truly authentic, personal movie. A must watch!!

A spectacular debut from a really talented filmmaker featuring wonderful performances and a compelling story expertly told, with honesty and compassion, from the point of view of a lovely Japanese-American teenage girl [clearly based in part on the writer/director's experience]. Not a wasted frame in Ms. Mariye's economic, unpretentious style, she treats her characters [and the viewer] with respect and intelligence. BRAVO!
